For Students

This guide will give an extremely simplified overview of how students should interact with Ion for eighth periods during hybrid school. If you have questions, please contact the Eighth Period Office.

Overview

If you have questions or your in person/virtual status changes, please contact the Eighth Period Office by emailing lslonina@fcps.edu and acdelgado1@fcps.edu.

The steps that you need to take to sign up for eighth periods on Ion have not changed in a hybrid environment. In fact, the only difference you will see is that either (Virtual) or (In-Person) will be listed next to each block letter according to your status. You should sign up for these blocks as you would any other block. Keep in mind that (In-Person) blocks will have a much lower capacity than you might be accustomed to, so sign up early.

In order to correctly sign you up for either (Virtual) or (In-Person) blocks, Ion has you assigned to a group. However, if for any reason your status changes (e.g. you were in person on Tuesday/Wednesday and now you are in person on Thursday/Friday, or you were in person and you are now virtual even if it is only for a limited period of time), you must notify the Eighth Period Office. If you fail to do so, you won't be able to sign up for the correct block and you will probably be marked absent.

FAQs: Fully Anticipated Questions

How do I contact the Eighth Period Office?

Email both lslonina@fcps.edu and acdelgado1@fcps.edu.

What has really changed from when we were all virtual in terms of how I sign up?

Nothing has really changed except that YOU are responsible for notifying the Eighth Period Office if your status changes. In fact, the sole purpose of this guide is to convince you that you need to notify the Eighth Period Office.

What if I test positive for COVID-19 and have to attend school virtually for a few weeks?

You should notify the Eighth Period Office.

What if I'm in person, but I will be absent from school but not because I am ill, or I just want to stay home and log into my classes and 8th period virtually?

This is not a valid reason to get switched into a virtual eighth period block for the day. If you're absent, it will be treated just like you were absent from school in a normal year.

What if I'm in person but I really want to sign up for a virtual block, leave school early, and go to Boba Tea?

Me too, but sorry, I don't make the rules. Go to your eighth period.

How does this all work so that I am automatically put in the right blocks and only see those?

Magic.
